WHAT ABOUT THE BOY CHILD? by Jamiu Ahmed

WHAT ABOUT THE BOY CHILD?

Right from the onset of the Twenty-first century till date, Human rights advocates/activists have done and have been doing a lot in terms of shielding and protecting the rights, privileges and acts of women and the girl child.

We all have seen and attested to the persistent increase in the number of girls growing massively to become intellectual women taking up the leadership roles and positions here in Africa and the world at large.

The number of women that are now getting interested and involved in academics is quite impressive.
The traditionally known careers such as Technology, Engineering, Aeronautics, Astronautics and other mentally and physically demanding careers that were mostly male-dominated have now been fully adopted and espoused by the female gender.
Of recent, the all-women crew spacewalk is another historical event marked and recorded by the whole universe.    This is a highly laudable and remarkable advancement throughout the entire history of human life and it deserves a standing ovation.

Since Africa has advanced in the way of addressing and turning to fight for the Girl's and women’s rights, it seems that we have all relaxed in securing that both genders (Male and Female) are equally improving.

Presently, The African boy child has been given less attention and support, thereby making them less productive and competitive.  It is therefore necessary and urgent that as human rights advocates we need to find a way of creating an enabling clause and structure by investing in the male child as well as the female child to balance the sloppy society.

We all need to stand up and press for more human capacity development organizations and mentors, to restore the dilapidated societal system that neglected the male child and empowering an equally competitive male generation also letting the masses know the dangers of neglecting the male child.

Have you ever wonder why it's necessary to give voice and support to the male child as well as the female child?

The world, especially Africa needs both empowered men and women – neglecting and ignoring the male child while empowering the female counterparts will only create a societal imbalance because we will be left with only empowered women who do not have male counterparts who are equally empowered.

Supporting and empowering the male as well as the female child will give rise to an equilibrium society — having genders that are equally empowered, and this will aid in the fight for human rights and activism because none of the genders will feel threatened, endangered or less inferior.

Lastly,  to refrain from a circumstance where we all be left to pick up the piece of our broken pieces, it is therefore important that in our endeavours to empower the girl child, we should ensure that the boy child is equally empowered too. Only then we can hit our chests and boldly say that we have auspiciously and honestly stood up for gender equality and won.
